Threads Through Time

The Threads Through Time Exhibition is hosted in honour of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua on the auspicious occasion of his 72nd birthday in 2024. It showcases the traditional attires and Thai societies of each era through immersive experience and AI technology for visitors to learn about the unique and long-standing history of various traditional Thai attires, including the Eight Styles of Thai National Dress, which were initiated by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. The exhibition also demonstrates the concept of colour in Thai culture, which is intertwined with traditional attire from the past and has become an integral part of Thai daily life.

1. Immersive Studio

The studio reconstructs the society and the attires of people from different eras, from the Ayutthaya period to the reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, and projects onto the walls along with sounds for visitors to immerse in the experience. Visitors can also take photos of themselves with AI technology to be characters in the scenes and interact with them by touching the walls.

2. Presentation Area

2.1 The History Timeline Section features images of Thai societies and people from various eras from the immersive room, with a timeline of both Thai and world history for visitors to understand the historical events and social changes that influenced fashion styles throughout periods.

2.2 Colour in Thai Culture Section presents the beliefs about colours revolving around traditional attire customs, from its origin of the nine celestial deities (Navagraha) to the beliefs and practices in the royal court. The display covers the principles found in the Mahataksa and Sawasdi Raksa doctrines and the practice of wearing auspicious colours according to the day of the week.
