Royal Court Textiles of Siam

The Royal Court Textiles of Siam Exhibition is hosted in honour of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary in 2024. Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, as the chairman of advisory board of the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles, gave advice and conducted research for the completion of organising this honourable exhibition.

For His Majesty King’s coronation ceremony on May 4, 2019, His Majesty had a royal initiative to perform the royal ceremony after the ancient royal traditions for the auspices of the kingdom. The ceremony emphasised the importance and granted people the opportunity to appreciate the royal traditions that have been practised since the Ayutthaya period and to understand the beauty of the inherited costumes, reflecting Thailand’s heritage and long-standing civilisation.

The exhibition highlights His Majesty the King’s Coronation outfits and His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great’s white ceremonial cloth worn during his Coronation. A variety of royal court textiles—Yia Rabap, Khem Khab, Attalat, and Sompak Poom—that will be included in the exhibition have never been displayed. The “Royal Court Textiles of Siam” aims to disseminate knowledge and promote an appreciation and understanding of the royal court textiles, as well as styles and traditional practices that have existed since ancient times.

The Royal Court Textiles of Siam Exhibition will be open to the public from 30 July 2024 – April 2027 in Gallery 3 – 4 at the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles in the Grand Palace.
