Thai Textiles Today
The textiles of each region of Thailand are characterized by specific material, motifs, and techniques. Still handmade today in villages all over the country, they are living repositories of centuries of Thai culture. However, while textile production skills are alive and welltoday, many younger Thais find the look of these textiles rather old-fashioned, or think they should be kept only for special occasions.
On 20 September 2014, Bon Jakobsen, administrator of the Facebook page “Sinn Inter,” led an informal discussion about Thai textiles and their role in modern Thai fashion at Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles’ Auditorium from 1:00-3:00 pm.
